■Gokayama Mugiya Festival  

Date: September 23rd (wed.)

Venue: Shunkoso 春光荘, Shimonashi, Nanto-shi, Toyama-ken

Bus: Short walk from “World Heritage Bus” Shimonashi” bus stop

One of the Gokayama’s traditional songs and dances “Mugiya” features noble, gallant male dance to the mournful melody of the samurais’ loss and elegant female dance clad in beautiful black kimono. Variety of folk songs and dances of Gokayama are also performed on stage at night. Enjoy the taste of autumn in the mountain village.

■Kokiriko Festival 

Date: September 25th (Fri.) & 26th (Sat.)

Venue: Hakusan-gu Shrine & Kokiriko-kan, Kaminashi, Nanto-shi, Toyama-ken

Bus: Short walk from “World Heritage Bus” Kaminashi” bus stop

This ancient nostalgic traditional performing art  features the male dance with classic percussion instrument “sasara” and  female dance with “shide” paper stream attached to “Kokiriko” bamboo sticks.  

Enjoy the performances of one of the oldest folk songs of Japan and the other Gokayama’s folk songs and dances on stage at two nights.
